Stories Close to Home

Our December project '80 Years of Freedom – Building Bridges' has been successfully completed. To mark this occasion, we are offering the booklet 'Stories Close to Home 1944-1945'.

This remarkable booklet provides a poignant picture of the lives of civilians in and around Heilig Landstichting during the final period of the Second World War. The stories that are often written down are usually the grand narratives, seen through the eyes of those in power: the politicians, the generals, and the armies. What is not written about in most history books is the life of civilians living in war zones. The booklet 'Stories Close to Home 1944-1945' changes that. It describes a route through Museumpark Orientalis that highlights the miserable situation of the civilians in and around Heilig Landstichting during the final period of the Second World War.
