Working at Museumpark Orientalis

You are welcome at the oldest open-air museum in the Netherlands, where you walk through nature, history, and stories. Here you encounter other cultures, discover centuries-old traditions, and experience how people throughout history, from the Romans to the present day, have given meaning to life. In our museum and the vast park, you travel back in time. You listen to stories, encounter other worlds, and experience traditions that have been passed down for generations.

There is something to experience for young and old alike: exploring, learning, playing, listening, slowing down, looking, and marveling. Everyone discovers things here in their own way. This place in Heilig Landstichting is for unwinding, being curious, and finding new ideas. We invite you to ask questions. About the past. About the world of today. And perhaps also about yourself. Here there is room for new inspiration, for not knowing for a moment.

A team

A wonderful experience does not happen by itself. To achieve this, we work with a dedicated team of staff members and a large group of over 100 volunteers. Staff members provide the professional foundation, expertise, and continuity. Volunteers bring warmth, hospitality, professional knowledge, and personal commitment. Together, they form the beating heart of the museum. We consciously choose this collaboration because the combination of professional strength and volunteer passion reinforces our mission. Volunteers add a diversity of perspectives, life experience, and enthusiasm; staff members offer structure, guidance, and substantive depth. This creates an environment where visitors feel welcome and where stories are shared in an authentic way.

Our policy aligns with the values that we consider important as an organization. We work according to the Governance Code for Culture , which means that we treat everyone who contributes to the museum with care, transparency, and responsibility. We follow the Fair Practice Code , because fair collaboration, clear agreements, and respect for everyone's contribution—paid or voluntary—are a matter of course for us. And we endorse the Diversity & Inclusion Code : we want to be an organization where everyone feels welcome and where different backgrounds and perspectives contribute to a richer cultural experience.

This is how staff and volunteers are building Museumpark Orientalis together: a place where history is shared, where people meet, and where engagement forms the heart of everything we do.
