Accessibility
Museumpark Orientalis considers accessibility for all visitors important, including people with a physical or sensory disability. Not every disability is visible. Therefore, anyone who cannot move through the museum independently may bring a companion free of charge.
Under the motto 'Accessible Museum Park', the museum strives to be of service to everyone as best as possible. We take into account visitors who wish to use walking aids or people who need the help of an interpreter or a service dog.
Visitors with walking aids
The Museum Park is situated in a hilly forest landscape and the distances are quite long, especially for visitors with mobility issues. Various resources are available for those visitors. Due to the hills and paths, our Museum Park is wheelchair accessible, not wheelchair-friendly!
What we can offer you:
- Wheelchairs are available at the entrance. The cashier can also provide information about the most accessible route for wheelchairs.
- An electric van is available upon request (free of charge). Please indicate at the cashier if you would like to make use of this.
- A van is available for people with limited mobility. Foldable wheelchairs and walkers can be taken along on the back of the van. Wheelchairs are also available for loan, both with narrow and extra-wide tires. There are no costs associated with the use of the wheelchair or the van.
For wheelchairs, it is advisable to contact the Museumpark in advance via info@museumparkorientalis.nl or 024-3823110 to ensure that you can use these facilities during your visit. For the shuttle bus, it is not necessary to contact us in advance.
Sensory-sensitive visitors
Our Museum Park can be an ideal place if you are easily overwhelmed by stimuli. Despite the visitors and (sometimes) groups of children, the park is large enough that you will experience little disturbance from them. Additionally, we take into account the sounds within the cultural heritage buildings in the park.
A while ago, we received a visit from Stichting Uit met Autisme. They wrote a review, and we have already addressed a large number of their findings. Read more here . We have informed the organization that we have tackled these points.
We are currently looking into the possibility of organizing special sensory-friendly sessions. As soon as this program is finalized, we will announce it on the website and via social media.
Blind and visually impaired visitors
Recently, an audio tour for the current outdoor exhibition was developed in Dutch, German, and English. Additionally, we are working on an audio tour for Feest van Licht and the new exhibition in 2026.
Deaf and hard-of-hearing visitors
We are currently developing a program that involves working with an interpreter who provides tours upon request. As soon as this program is finalized, we will announce it on the website and via social media. Additionally, our volunteers and staff recently attended a 'Museums in Sign Language' workshop.
