You can indicate in your will that you wish to leave your inheritance, or a portion thereof, to charities. Drawing up a will is always done through a notary, who can inform you about the options and costs. To make it easy for yourself, you can follow the step-by-step plan below for leaving a legacy to the Museum Park.

If you want to decide for yourself what happens to your assets, you must make a will. If you do not have a will drawn up, the statutory rules for distribution will apply after your death. Therefore, make sure to record what you wish to leave behind.

Step 1: Heir or legatee?

Depending on what you wish to leave behind, you first choose whether to appoint your loved ones and/or Museumpark Orientalis as (co-)heirs or as (co-)legatees.

Choose an heir if you wish to leave a percentage of your inheritance. As an heir, the charity is entitled to the entire estate, either alone or together with other heirs. This portion, usually a percentage, is also known as the testamentary disposition. The charity and any co-heirs then inherit all assets and liabilities of the estate.

Do you wish to leave a sum of money or goods? Then choose a legatee, who will receive a legacy. This can be a fixed sum of money, but also a specific asset such as a house or a painting.

Step 2: Are you choosing an executor?

Although not mandatory, it is highly advisable to appoint an executor in your will. This person will settle your estate after your death. Ask this person in advance whether they are actually willing and able to perform the duties of executor. If you name Museumpark Orientalis as your sole heir, we can also act as executor for you.

Step 3: Recording your wishes

Always have your wishes recorded by a notary, as a handwritten statement is not sufficient. You can have your will drawn up by a notary or do so online. A notary can also provide the best will advice and give you insight into the costs of drafting a will.

Make an appointment with your notary to discuss your wishes and seek advice regarding your will. During the first meeting, you tell the notary what your wishes are. The notary informs you about the options and costs. The notary draws up your will.

Instead of an initial meeting with the notary, you can complete an online module, for example via NuTestament.nl . There, you can easily arrange a will online for a fixed fee. This is more cost-effective because you do the preliminary work yourself online. Subsequently, you only need to go to the notary to sign the will. See step 5.

Step 4: Draft text

After assessing your wishes, the notary will draw up a draft text. You will receive this, along with an explanation, by post or email. Please review this carefully.

Step 5: Sign

Make a (follow-up) appointment with the notary to review the text together. You can always make changes. When everything is to your liking, you sign the will. Your will can be amended by you at the notary's office at any time in the future.

Once you have signed the will, a copy will be sent to your home. The notary keeps the original of your will and registers it with the Central Register of Wills in The Hague. This ensures that the will can always be found after your death.

Step 6: Inform the charity

If you have decided to leave a legacy to Museumpark Orientalis, we would appreciate it if you let us know . This is not mandatory, but it is the only way we can thank you, invite you to gatherings, and involve you in our activities. After all, we would like to show you what you will be contributing to in the future.
