That is why we have a carefully drafted volunteer policy that guides recruitment, support, appreciation, and collaboration. It goes without saying that volunteers feel seen, safe, and appreciated within our community.
Why become a volunteer at Museumpark Orientalis?
In the oldest open-air museum in the Netherlands, you walk through nature, history, and stories. Here you encounter other cultures, discover centuries-old traditions, and experience how people throughout history, from the Romans to the present day, have given meaning to life. In our museum and the vast park, you travel back in time. You listen to stories, encounter other worlds, and experience traditions that have been passed down for generations.

Because your time and attention really do make a difference. Even if you only help four times a year — your contribution is greatly appreciated. As a volunteer, you help offer visitors a place of peace, reflection, and connection. You make it possible for them to pause for a moment in a world that often keeps spinning.
There are many ways you can participate:
- Greet visitors with a smile at the checkout.
- Bring stories to life as a tour guide or storyteller
- Help care for the landscape through green management
- Ensure a safe and pleasant environment as an usher, driver, or hospitality volunteer.

Our volunteer policy aligns with the values we uphold as an organization. For instance, we work in accordance with the Governance Code for Culture , in which good governance, transparency, and due care are central. Additionally, we follow the Fair Practice Code , because fair collaboration, clear agreements, and respect for everyone's contribution, whether paid or voluntary, are indispensable to us. Finally, we endorse the Diversity & Inclusion Code : we strive for an organization where everyone feels welcome and where different perspectives contribute to a richer cultural experience.
Volunteer coordinator
Manon van Ballegooij is the warm heart of our volunteer community. As volunteer coordinator, she brings people together, maintains an overview, and ensures an environment where everyone feels welcome and appreciated. Manon knows the park, the stories, and the people who contribute to them. She listens, connects, and guides — always with attention to the person behind the volunteer.
